Sarah Alter — named president and CEO of NEW in June 2017 — has wide-ranging experience in the retail, financial services and technology markets. As vice president of Discover Financial Services, Alter led the product strategy for all credit card features, benefits and services. As vice president for digital sales and marketing at Quill.com, she helped transform the business, increasing its digital sales. In her last job — chief marketing officer for General Growth Properties— Alter developed and executed marketing strategies for 200 shopping mall properties and their top retailers. Alter has served on a number of non-profit
boards and is an accomplished fundraiser. She is an organizer of Chicago’s annual JDRF Gala, which has raised millions of dollars for Type 1 diabetes. She is a graduate of Northwestern University and has a Harvard MBA.

Suzy Monford is Group Vice President of Fresh Merchandising at The Kroger Co. Suzy is responsible for differentiating our core Fresh departments against our competitors to accelerate our growth in the fast-growing segment of meal solutions and restaurant food.
In this role, Suzy will oversee our Fresh departments of Meat, Seafood, Produce, Floral, Deli & Cheese, Prepared Foods, Bakery and Culinary. She will also lead and help us expand our Meal Solutions – scaling our “Ready to” offerings, creating best in-class venues in our stores through third-party restaurant partnerships and managing our Kitchen 1883 operations and expansion.
Suzy joined Kroger in 2017 as president of our QFC Division, where she and the team delivered above budget identical sales and grew market share by launching delivery, curating a best-in-class local and natural assortment, and innovating a variety of in-store concepts including FitMarket. QFC was the first division to eliminate single use plastic bags on behalf of Kroger’s Zero Hunger ꓲ Zero Waste social impact plan and has played a lead role in the company’s partnership with Microsoft and EDGE Shelf.
Suzy is the former CEO of Andronico’s Community Markets, the San Francisco Bay Area chain that was acquired by Albertsons in early 2017. Prior to Andronico’s, she was recruited to innovate retail in Australia, first by Coles Supermarkets in 2009 and by Woolworths Supermarkets in 2013. For 10 years, Suzy served as an executive for H-E-B Central Market and H-E-B Grocery Company in Texas. Prior to
H-E-B, she was president of Cheers, Inc., a Texas-based fast casual restaurant chain.

Suzy was recently named a 2019 Top Woman in Grocery and has also been recognized as a 2017 Top Woman in Retail Tech, a 2016 Top Industry Disruptor and a 2016 Top Woman in Grocery. She holds a bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
